Frequently Asked Questions

Lab Grown Diamonds are just like test tube babies grown from a single seed of Diamond under the same heat and pressure as in the crust of mother earth. They are ecologically friendly as they do not scar the earth with mining. Since they avoid the stigma of blood diamonds, there has been a worldwide acceptance for this category. Most importantly, they are more uniform, yet cheaper than natural diamonds. While naturally mined diamonds form below the surface of the earth over millions of years, lab-grown diamonds can be created in a lab over a period of a few weeks.

Lab-grown diamonds are graded in the same way as natural diamonds, by assessing the 4C’s of diamond quality: Cut, Color, Carat, Clarity. Once they are ready, they are sent to an independent gem lab to be certified by an expert.

It has taken almost 60 years of efforts to replicate the precision of a natural diamond into a Lab Grown Diamond. While a natural diamond can take billions of years to form underneath the earth, Lab Grown Diamonds can be produced at the finest of quality within 1-2 months. With evolving technology and new entrants in the Lab Diamond space, the supply and utility of these diamonds is expected to grow at an exponential rate.

Lab Diamonds and Natural Diamonds hold the same chemical properties, hence it is not possible for an individual to distinguish between both these types of diamond with the naked eye

Yes. GIA has been grading Lab Grown Diamonds since 2007. There are also other grading organizations like The International Gemological Institute (IGI), The Gem Certification & Assurance Lab (GCAL), Gemological Science International (GSI), The American Gem Society (AGS). following the same process and better procedures to grade diamonds.

Lab Grown Diamonds rank at number 10 on the Moh’s Scale of Hardness. They flaunt the same hardness, strength, quality & chemical properties as their mined counterparts.
